They soon enough begin to play a game of truth, each question stripping them of a very personal detail about who they are. They share some martinis and after that, they share some more martinis. The story kicks off with Ted Severson meeting the gorgeous Lily Kintner on a night flight that is taking them from London to Boston. What more do I have to say? Should I also mention that this book contains delicately planned deceptions, dark themes of accidental murder, and some other nasty stuff? One Too Many Martinis So, what is this supposed gem of a book all about? It is a psychological thriller with heavy mystery and crime elements which also earned this piece the “…contender for crime fiction’s best first novel of 2014” review from the Washington Post. Published in 2015, it was the author’s second novel and it launched his career through the roof. In fact, this piece is so popular that I would bet at least half of you have seen it in a bookstore. Not only is it one of his most critically acclaimed novels, but it is also one of the best selling Peter Swanson books out there. The Kind Worth Killing is definitely a book worth including in this Peter Swanson book list.

It was a plot point that was NOT in the original script, but Marcia understood it made the stakes much higher–and therefore that much more exciting for the audience. It was Marcia, for example, who, during the trench run sequence in Star Wars, used recycled footage to insert the ‘ticking clock’ of the Death Star moving into position to destroy the rebel base. That sounds like it should be obvious, but it’s actually an often overlooked superpower of seeing the forest for the trees. Apart from being a terrific editor, Marcia had an uncanny ability to see any film they were working on from the point of view of an audience. There’s a reason everyone refers to her as the heart of Star Wars, as well as George Lucas’s secret weapon. (I tried like heck for three years to get her to talk with me, and never cracked it.) I’m so glad to see Marcia Lucas - wife of George, and the Oscar-winning, ace editor who put together the original Star Wars trilogy–finally going on the record about her life and experiences for Vice’s Icons Unearthed docuseries. That was child number five for Todd and Sarah Palin, with their eldest, Track, already in the military and headed for Iraq. So is her special-needs child, Trig, born with Down’s Syndrome only a few months before his mother was tapped to run for Vice President. How many women have won a local beauty contest, finished second runner-up in the state pageant, then gone on to be Mayor, Governor, and vice presidential candidate of one of the two major parties, all while giving birth to and raising five children? How many have earned the nickname “barracuda” for toughness in athletic competition and “Miss Congeniality” in the aforementioned state beauty pageant? Lord, it must be hard to pretend you’re just a typical American career mom when your book about yourself sits atop the bestseller list a week after it hit the bookstores. Going Rogue is subtitled “An American Life,” but Sarah Palin is hardly the typical American “hockey mom.” “I love to write, but not about myself,” wrote Sarah Palin on page 409 of a book that is almost entirely about herself. Din Djarin and Grogu then travel first to meet with Carson Teva to secure case-by-case contract employment for Din with the New Republic and to acquire parts to fix IG-11. First, Din formally adopts Grogu, cementing their familial relationship and also Grogu's place within the Children of the Watch. The final act of the finale shows Din and Grogu finally able to bask in the support of their found family. However, throughout the series, Din and Grogu have amassed a loyal family of their own willing to support them on their adventures. The series does have an overarching plot with high stakes, and the finale does mainly focus on the Mandalorians reclaiming Mandalore from the Empire. At the series' beginning, Din was in some contact with his cohort, but he mainly worked alone. Throughout The Mandalorian, Din Djarin has been on a similar path. And I was left with the overall impression that the book had too much sex and not enough plot and character development. The sex scenes were hot but too similar and repetitive. The characters seemed a bit plastic and one-dimensional. The series has gotten rave reviews but when I read the first installment Diving in Deep I was unimpressed. I went into this novel expecting to be underwhelmed. Paramedic Aaron is impressed and in lust when he first meets do-gooder Joey at an accident scene but when he learns that Joey works for the Florida Department of Children's Services, his own bad experiences with the agency are almost enough to cool his ardor. He's not going to let number eleven get away. Maybe because there's something to fight for. All that experience has to count for something, right? With Aaron it's different. It's not that he can't tell the difference between sex and love. Even the fact that Joey works for the hated social work system isn't reason enough to keep him out of Aaron's bed. Joey's sexy, funny and annoyingly optimistic, and his tendency to get into trouble keeps sending him Aaron's way. He certainly wasn't expecting Joey Miller to accidentally drop into his life. Now that the last one is off to college, Aaron's anticipating enjoying life on his. It just comes with a lot of responsibility, like when he had to raise his sister and brothers after their drug-addicted mom took off for good. Paramedic Aaron Chase doesn't have anything against love. Immovable object? Meet the irresistible force. |
